Day Thirty One

Day Thirty One - "Where are we going to shoot?" "Oh I don't know... how about the middle of the road?" "What?!" "Oh relax, Doofus"
Why waste time doing something that isn't productive or purposeful? I don't know! Thats why I have stopped (mostly) wasting time, and started doing things that 1. I want to do, and 2. will bring me closer to my goals and dreams. So hey, if you want to shoot day thirty one in the street.. just go do it!

Day Thirty

Day Thirty - "I hold in my hand the eye to generations of Dalton history."
Alright now, all you peeps reading this have eyes.. yeah i'm not just talking about the two your reading this with, i'm talking about the camera you inevitably have. I am challenging you to make a photograph of yourself doing something that you LOVE. Yes, that can be just about anything, but I challenge YOU to document something that you love with ANY camera and share it with the world! No, don't ask questions, don't think about it, just go do it!

Day Twenty Nine

Day Twenty Nine - How can you tell good friends apart from best friends? Yup. The dorkiness. These three wonderful ladies are no exception. The laughter flowed freely, keeping the cold at bay until the hot drinks were steaming in hand

Day Twenty Eight - The lovely Katie and my new backdrop.. also called tablecloths. But back to Katie, as this is one of many of her senior photos, stay tuned!

As for day 28.. the day was long, but the jazz good. Night All

Day Twenty Seven

Day Twenty Seven - The sight of the shopping cart behind subway conjured up memories of the little rascals racing their speedy little box cars. And who doesn't want to ride in a shopping cart?! Its a timeless guilty pleasure, and an awesome photo opportunity!
Note: no homeless men were angered in the making of this picture ;)

Day Twenty Six

Day Twenty Six - JC needed a couple portraits done. I needed day twenty six: it always feels good when you help out a friend by doing something that you love. The chore mentality is gone, so the art just flows.
Remember, art couldn't be art if there wasn't a social aspect to it: so do your part! Let your emotions flow below!

Day Twenty Five

Day Twenty Five - A Selfey. And yes, my arms are at my sides, for there is a.. REMOTE IN MY HAND. Gone are the days of running to and from the camera! But thats not even the best part of the day: my dad returned from a visit with his dad.. with all of his old film gear! A beautiful Olympus and a 50mm f/1.4 No, it doesn't come close to fitting on my camera but.. THANK YOU DUCT TAPE. So here it is: self portrait on a 50 f/1.4. I am quite content. Happy Tuesday!

Day Twenty Four

Day Twenty Four - What does Santa do on vacation? What do you think? If your livin at the north pole you are definitely gonna be skiing. But most don't know that the snow there is oddly similar to crinkled purple strips of paper... Hey, go tell your parents: you learned something today;)

Day Twenty Three

Day Twenty Three - I'm finding it increasingly difficult to simply walk down the street. In New York, I dashed in to buy a a big pair of sunglasses to conceal myself, but the guy behind the counter shouted Hey! Its Dr. House! - Hugh Laurie

Day Twenty Two

Day Twenty Two - Planning ahead is nice, but sometimes stuff just happens, and plans change. But spontaneity can work out, and in this case, it sure did!

Day Twenty-One

Day Twenty-one - I am starting to like these nighttime in downtown portraits: full of colorful panhandlers, blustery breezes, and oddly kind security guards. Yes, we were hit on/ asked for change, the light was blown over and saved many times (thanks Deven), and the security guard that was creepin' on us turned out to make a great human lightstand. No, he walked off before I could catch his name so this is what i've got:

Day Twenty

Day Twenty - Yes, there are entirely too many me's. And not just in this selfey: too many (I think) of these days are Willie heavy. For your sake, and mine, i've gotta get outta this house, grab people (I'm not gonna rule out doll.. um.. action figures from my early years) with no other goal but to make great photographs. And yes, without a remote, self portraits aren't always so much fun. But hey, with three hundred and forty-five days left, your gonna see this face again. Guess you'll just have to tough it out.

Day Nineteen

It was cold. I was lying on the ground. I was getting snow repeatedly kick in my face. But hey, it was NEW SNOW. Definitely worth it.

Day Eighteen

Day Eighteen - With nothing at all in mind, I grabbed my gear and headed downtown. I told myself I wouldn't leave until I had "the shot". Finally, after many complaints from my fingers and toes, I settled on this park bench with the moon in the background. After twenty freezing minutes of running back and forth between the camera, which was on self timer, until I got the focus right. Then I threw my gear in the back of my car, and sped home squealing as the blood rushed back into my extremities.

Day Seventeen - How do you keep a dog's attention? Treats, right? Yeah.. but once they know they're in your pocket.. well then they just stare at you longingly. While salivating. Who doesn't like doggy num num's?!

Day Sixteen - Just like the tides, the college students come and go. Day Sixteen is that day for Ms. Anna, as she travels to warmer lands to spend absurd amounts of money on knowledge. Yes, this is college!

Day Fifteen - Yes, yes, minutes to spare. But Harry Potter looked pretty darn good on our fancy new tv and bluray player.. so here is the infamous apple that Malfoy put through the vanishing cabinet. The apple that foreshadows Dumbledore's demise..!

Day Fourteen

Day Fourteen - My father, the sole financial supporter of the project, has been asking when he will be included. Today I gave in to the complaints.. which continued during the shoot. Looks like someone wont't be in anymore for while..!

Day Thirteen

Day Thirteen - Staring contest. Not the first one of the day. But definitely the last. G'night

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Day Twelve

Day Twelve - I'm not so sure about love at first sight.. but I can confirm "love at first bite". The Bear Tooth and I have had a longstanding relationship when it comes to Carne Asada Burrito's. Sorry Taco King, Bear Tooth has you beat.

Day Eleven

Day Eleven - I'm no Wile E. Coyote, but this selfy goes out to all those great old Looney Toons. Meep Meep!

This is Ten Days

Day Ten - This is (was) the good stick in my last new batch of 7A's, which gave out today. Guess I'll have to move on to Mr. Chenery's sticks :)"

Day 9 - The afternoon light was lovely, and capturing it with the wonderfully photogenic Ms. Sarah was all too easy. We tromped around town square park, getting strange looks from passers-by, and a certain local photographer who kindly offered a hand. After crossing the ice rink, set up in the cool blue glow of the tree lights and made this shot.
big thanks to Nathaniel Wilder who supplied the 85 f/1.2 for this shot

Anna and Kate made us dinner. I took photos. That all Ive got

Day 7

Day 7 - "What is that your doing?" "The elevator dance" "Elevator dance?" "Yeah, there's no steps to it" - The Three Stooges
We braved the extreme cold to.. no.. it really wasn't all that much. The toughest part was getting them to follow directions. Which made for some great photographs!

Day 6

Day 6
Day6 - This little bugger was in my front yard eating berries off our trees. When I started popping of the flash, the curious little guy came a little too close, so I jumped in my car. In a slight rush to get into my car, I left the flash in the snow. He almost stepped on it.. but at least he didn't try to eat it!

Day 5

Day 5 - "Biker Chic"

My wonderfully patient sister offered up her bike spoke bracelet for day five. For all you women: click here

Day 4

Day 4
"You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain." - The Dark Knight
Too bad Harvey didn't have these sweet shades!

Day 3

My first attempt at day three was in the form of an outdoor self-portrait, but the winds decided that I should shoot indoors.. so I did! This is the wonderful Kate, and just of camera is the lovely human light stand Megan. These women made day three possible! And just in the nick of time. Stay tuned, more (on time) photographs to come!

Day 2

"So... Will these eggs hatch?" "...Do you see any roosters around here?" "...oh..."

Day 2 of my 365 comes from the Chugach school chicken coop and their mama hen, Cami (who also happens to be my own mama hen!)
I set up a inside of the fenced in coop, shot for a few minutes while being cooed at, got dirty, and emerged (in one piece) with this shot! The chickens are able to stay surprisingly clean, though I can't say the same for my shoes. The gear required a little cleaning, but I am ready for tomorrow's shot!

Project 365 - Day 1

"Are you feelin' lucky, punk?"

This is day one of Project 365, my quest to post one photo each day for a year. It so much more than pressing the shutter once each day, it is about improvement, and having a tangible result at the end of this year to show progress.
With my project comes a theme: each photo will involve off camera lighting. I was inspired to both do a 365 and further my off camera lighting skills from Clark Mishler and Nathaniel Wilder with help from here
Be sure to check in! I'll be posting every day ;)
